Patrick K McGowan, known commonly as Pat McGowan, (born in Bangor) is a Maine politician. A member of the Democratic Party, McGowan was candidate in the 2010 Democratic primary for Governor of Maine.
He began his political career in 1980 with his election to the Maine House of Representatives where he served for ten years. He ran as the Democratic nominee for Maine's 2nd congressional district seat in 1990 and 1992. From 1993 to 2001 he served in the Clinton administration as the New England regional administrator of the Small Business Administration. Most recently, he served as the Maine Commissioner of Conservation from 2003 to 2010.
The Portland Press Herald announced support of McGowan, along with Republican candidate Steve Abbott, on June 2, 2010, for the Democratic Party's nomination for Governor of Maine. McGowan lost the primary to Libby Mitchell.
